Powerful Image- Embrace

"Fatima al-Qaws cradles her son Zayed (18), who is suffering from the effects of tear gas after participating in a street demonstration, in Sanaa, Yemen, on 15 October." She originally though her son had perished in demonstration. The photo captures the embrace that follows. Samuel Aranda took the photo which became World Press Photo of the Year in 2011. It is also the Crystal Castles Album Cover "(lll)".  Samuel was worried about how this image would be portrayed in the media and was hesitant to sign off on the rights until he talked to the artists and agreed with their message. In an interview he had with playgroundmag.net he stated that women are the shoulders in which the country of Yemen leans on.
